I’ve never been one that’s big on New Year’s resolutions, or the idea of waiting for a new year to commit yourself to a significant life-change. It is my opinion
that New Year’s resolutions typically don’t work because of the built-up anticipation and pressure that people put on themselves with some “new idea” that they’ve concocted, expecting unreasonable or unmeasureable results. At the end of the day, they realize that the resolution is one that they cannot attain, and they eventually succumb to their own botched plan.
By definition, a resolution is a decision to either do, or not do something. So, a New Year’s resolution is the choice to change something at the beginning of a new year. But why? Why keep making decisions on your own that will not work out? Why not be le
ad into what is yours, whether it’s the beginning, middle, or end of the year? Remember, what is yours, is yours. It cannot be taken away from you by someone else. It cannot fail, because He doesn’t fail.
I have recently received a vision that could be a new phase for me; a new chapter in my life. This is going to be cumbersome; it is going to take a whole lot of prayer to clearly determine the direction I am to move in. I will definitely need more than a New Year’s resolution to bring this to pass, because this is something that is bigger than me. But if it’s for me, it’s already worked out.
Instead of making your own New Year’s resolution, allow God to lead you toward GREAT things. Once He gives you something, and you accept i
t, He’ll give you the resources you need to accomplish it. If He knows you’re not quite ready, He’ll help you take baby steps towards the conceptual goal, the “big picture”. If His goal for you is to start a new business, He won’t throw you in the deep end of a pool head-first without a flotation device, or the skills to swim and stay afloat. He’ll start you in the shallow end of the pool, and as you learn how to swim, He’ll move you to where you need to be.
So this is not a New ME because of the New Year, it’s a New ME because of my faith in God. Resolve to stand on faith. Here’s to a New You!
